Featuring Mondwest & Neue World by Pangram Pangram type Foundry

Pangram Pangram is one of my favourite type foundries at the moment. You can find their fonts here: https://pangrampangram.com/. They do some beautiful typefaces and I have been dying to try out two in particular: Mondwest & Neue World.

When I began putting the imagery together, I was listening to a nineties playlist, which made me quite nostalgic. I was drawn to imagery that reminds me of movies like Romeo + Juliet, directed by Baz Luhrmann, and Clueless. These movies influenced my colour palette and made me think of what LA might have been like back then.

Doing this experiment reminded me of washed out neon towels drying in the sun next to a kidney shaped pool and eating watermelon on a hot day. Design should take you to a place; it should remind you of things. I really enjoyed getting nostalgic and I hope it evokes the same feelings in you.

I finished junior school in 1997 and so the nineties evoke very strong memories in me. Some of my favourite musicians Kurt Cobain, Tupac and Biggie Smalls died that year and these events bring back that sadness and evoke those late childhood memories.
